Winners have been selected for 2011 Associated Press Television-Radio Association scholarships.


Each winner receives $1,500, which will be presented during the 2011 Mark Twain Awards banquet.



THE APTRA-CLETE ROBERTS MEMORIAL JOURNALISM SCHOLARSHIPS

CLETE ROBERTS, veteran broadcast journalist who covered battlefield stories from World War 11 to Vietnam and who reported for Southern California television and radio for more than half a century, is honored with a $1,500 APTRA scholarships in his memory.



THE KATHRYN DETTMAN MEMORIAL JOURNALISM SCHOLARSHIP

KATHRYN DETTMAN wrote and reported for the AP in Los Angeles and at the Broadcast News Center in Washington. She was one of the first Clete Roberts scholarship winners. One $1,500 scholarship has been established in her honor.

Scholarship winners must exhibit enthusiasm, aptitude and a sense of commitment for a career in some aspect of broadcast news. Judges will take into consideration a combination of academic achievement, financial need and broadcast career goals that embody the spirit of Clete Roberts and Kathryn Dettman. All candidates must currently be attending a college or university in one of the 12 APTRA states and be involved in some aspect of broadcast news.


Guidelines:

  • Scholarship is open to students pursuing a career in Broadcast Journalism
  • To be eligible for APTRA Scholarships, you must be a college student currently enrolled at a college or university in one of the 12 APTRA states.
    (Incoming freshman and high school seniors are not eligible)
  • Students enrolled at schools outside the 12 APTRA states are not eligible
  • All applications must be TYPED to be considered. No Exceptions
  • Any attached work (tapes or writing samples) must be clearly labeled with name of applicant and school. Work will not be returned
  • Applications must be received by 5 p.m. PST, Dec. 31, 2010. No exceptions. Overnight and Priority mail packages must be received by deadline date and time.
  • Applications will be only accepted by mail. No e-mail or faxes will be accepted.
  • After scholarship applications are received, a committee will pick finalists. All finalists will be notified by phone or email about next step in the application process.
  • Scholarships winners will be notified by e-mail or phone by Jan. 2011

The scholarships will be awarded at APTRA's annual spring awards banquet.

REMEMBER: The deadline for receipt of entries is 5 p.m. PST, Dec. 31, 2010. Entries received after that date will not be considered.
